Lucerne chaff (alfalfa chaff) is a nutritious and versatile feed supplement for chickens. Naturally high in protein, calcium, and fibre, it supports healthy growth, strong eggshells, and overall wellbeing. At Pip & Grow, we start using lucerne chaff in the brooder from around 2 weeks of age—sprinkling a small handful over the wood shavings. The leafy texture keeps chicks busy scratching and pecking, helping to reduce boredom.

It’s also a great addition to the treat bucket for mature birds, especially during the months when fresh greens are limited.
